Hello!
I have purchased this Luger a few months ago. Here are the identification markers:
'DWM', Crown over 'N', Letter suffixed serial number, Gesichert under saftey toggle, and no date stamp. No other marking is there except one. It appears to be the number '82' that was scratched on the side of the lever that pivots when the gun is cocked. I think this is part of what is called the toggle. The serial number is 1368 with a scripted 'k'. It has all matching serial numbers. There are no importer markings. The magazine has a wooden base. Any ideas to help me narrow the range of possible dates that is the year of manufacture? I have already narrowed it down to at or before 1934. The previous owner told me 1908, but I doubt this. He may have meant '1918'.
I am enthused because it is a pre war Luger P08 that is in excellent condition with 95% condition of finish. Oh yes, it has dark wooden checkered grips and fixed sights. The front sight does not have that little hook in the back part of it. There is no apparent way to attach a stock. The caliber is a 7.65 Parabellum.
Thanks!
Bob
PS Sorry about the title of this thread. I meant to type 'P08'. By the way, I am a neophyte when it comes to firearms.
Update Thanks for the title change, Mike.
Serial number question. This is a discussion on Serial number question within the Pistols & Revolvers forums, part of the Pistol & Revolver Forum category; I have a very old DWM German Luger. I've approximated the date at 1914, but I'd like to know for sure when it was manufactured. Jan 21, 2018 For all your Luger needs: Today I am visiting Simpson Ltd in Galesburg, Illinois - a gun shop, import/export shop, and premier Luger dealer. The question we are look at is one of the most common they hear from customers: how do you tell if a Luger is all matching? When the guns were originally made, the factory put the serial number on a whole bunch of different.
